Abstract: Wilmer H. Baatz served as the Assistant
Library Director at Indiana University from 1966-1986. He was responsible for
building up the Afro-American studies collection and the cooperative project between
all IU campuses to allow faculty to borrow materials from all state universities.
The collection consists of administrative records and corresponded related to
Baatz's time as assistant director.

Abstract: With a history dating back to 1895, the Chemistry library was initially housed in Wylie Hall, however with the
completion of the Chemistry building in the 1930s it relocated and remains in that location to this day. The
collection consists primarily of administrative files such as handbook, notes and memos.

Abstract: Robert A. Miller served as the Director
of Libraries at Indiana University from March 1942 to August 1972. Under his
administration, the Lilly Library and Main Library [now Herman B Wells Library] were
built. Miller had a significant impact upon the design of both libraries, completely
designing the interior of the Lilly. The collection consists of administrative
records and correspondence related to Miller's tenure as director.

Abstract: Cecil K. Byrd was a long-time member of the
Indiana Universities Libraries. During the course of his career, he held the titles of
Curator of Rare Books and Special Collections, Associate Professor, Assistant Director
of Libraries, University Librarian, and finally professor and librarian emeritus. The
collection consists of administrative records and correspondence related to Byrd's
career at Indiana University.

Abstract: Established in 1962, Indiana University’s Undergraduate Library (UGL)
was intended to offer more relevant services to IU’s undergraduate students than what was being provided by the Main Library.
Having officially changed its name to Undergraduate Library Services (UGLS), the department is extant today and is still offering
many of the resources it once did in its early years, such as a browsing collection, a Media Center, and a career references
section. This collection consists of a variety of records that pertain to the history and administration of UGLS, such as
statistics,
financial documents, policies, building maintenance and renovation. The collection also contains information on student-related
activities and programs hosted by UGLS.

Abstract: Since its inception, the Government Publications Department (GPD) at Indiana University has aimed to offer free access of
government publications and other information to the general public. The GPD, now known as Government Information and Kent
Cooper Services, houses records from city, county, state and federal governments, as well as many publications from foreign
governments and international organizations. The collection consists of correspondence, reports, statistics, policy changes,
and other information regarding GPD administration.

Abstract: Established in 1974, the Bloomington
Library Faculty Council is the formal representative organ of the library faculty at
Indiana University Bloomington. The goal of the BLFC is to strengthen and coordinate
the library faculty at Indiana University’s flagship campus in Bloomington. The
records of the BLFC consist of the administrative files, constitutions, and reports
of the council and its various committees, including the secretary’s files.

Abstract: The Indiana University Libraries Support
Staff Council was created to give the Support Staff of the Libraries’ system a voice
in developing the policies and the work environment that affected them on a daily
basis. Included in the collection are minutes and agendas of the Council as well as
minutes for committees; correspondence, including memos, e-mails, etc.; and ballots
for the annual staff award.

Abstract: In 1947, the Indiana University Division
of Library Science (DLS) was established as a division within the School of Education
with Margaret I. Rufsvold serving as director. In 1966, the Graduate Library School was
established as a separate academic unit. In 1980, the name was changed to the School of
Library and Information Science. Collection includes correspondence, publications,
annual reports, student data, project information, and records related to workshops and
conferences held by the Library School throughout the years. The bulk of the records
date from Margaret Rufsvold's tenure as director and dean of the program, but the
collection does include records from her successors, Charles H. McMullen, who served as
acting dean until Bernard Fry was appointed in 1967. Fry served as dean until his
retirement in 1980.

Abstract: Bernard M. Fry served as the Dean of
Indiana University's Graduate Library School from 1967 to 1980 and upon his
retirement in 1984 he became Professor Emeritus of Library Science. Under Fry's
leadership, the Research Center for Library and Information Science was established,
and the Graduate Library School was recognized both nationally and internationally
as a top five school in the field. The collection is comprised of materials relating
to Fry's activities as Dean of the Graduate Library School. The majority of the
collection consists of administrative and proposed research study files related to
the Research Center for Library and Information Science.

Abstract: The first Halls of Residence Library at
Indiana University was created in 1940. It was located in the Men’s Residence Center
(now the Collins Living-Learning Center). The idea for these libraries came from
President Herman B Wells and Halls of Residence Director Alice Nelson, who had
visited schools in the east and seen these types of libraries being utilized in
university settings. At first administered by the libraries, the Halls of Residence
Libraries were transferred to Residential Programs and Services in 2001. This
collection includes annual reports, subject files, correspondence and student papers
written over the years about the libraries.
