Rachel Zajac put a final capper on an already spectacular career, earning All-Summit League honors with a third-place finish in the 5,000m race at the league championships at the Ellig Sports Complex on Saturday (May 17).
As a team, IUPUI placed seventh overall with 15 points while host North Dakota State won the team title with 246 points.
Zajac highlighted the Jaguars' final day efforts, taking third in the 5K, trailing only South Dakota's Amber Eichkorn and South Dakota State's Cheyenne Bowers. Zajac closed in a time of 17:41.97, placing her third of 23 runners. Sophomore
Leah Brooks placed ninth overall in a time of 18:13.37 and Turner was 12th at 18:29.26.
Sophomore
Lexi Hunt finished at 19:00.00 while both
Mariana Lopez-Owens and
Ashley Mosley finished the outdoor season with new 5K personal bests.
In the 1,500m race, sophomore
Julie Riggins led the way with a new PR, finishing at 4:49.69 in 11th place of 21 runners. Senior
Sarah Carlisle ran a time of 5:10.43 and classmate
Anne Mogavero notched a new PR at 5:17.90. A third senior,
Emily Vetor, also posted a new season best by running 5:28.22.
Zajac and
Allie DeBaker headline the Jaguars' departures heading into next season, but the IUPUI program will boast unprecedent depth next year with the signings of 14 in-state freshmen.
